The Downtown Albuquerque area is bounded by I-25 and the Rio Grande River, and by I-40 and Cesar Chavez Ave. The Albuquerque area is a city undergoing great revitalization; many older buildings have been converted into modern luxury lofts. The downtown area is rich in entertainment, offering theaters, museums, restaurants, and nightclubs. Public transportation options are aplenty–making community sustainability a reality.

In the fact-finding mood? You won’t want to miss the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History or the ¡Explora! Science Center and Children’s Museum. For a full-day excursion, there’s the Rio Grande Zoo. Looking to just relax and kick back? Take a stroll around Old Town and take in all the fabulous New Mexican artifacts. Limited on time? Bring a lunch and walk around Tiguex Park (pictured right). Downtown Albuquerque even boasts an 18-hole golf course at the Albuquerque Country Club. And catch a variety of special events, including movies and concerts, at the Harry E. Kinney Civic Plaza (pictured left).

Southeast Heights is delineated by Tramway to San Mateo and Central to Kirtand Air Force Base. Consisting of single-family homes, townhomes, and condos, and including the new neighborhoods of Volterra (house pictured right) and Willow Wood, Southeast Heights features several parks, a community center, and shopping.

Southeast Heights is bounded by Kirtland Air Force Base on its Southern side, with easy-access gates at Eubank, Wyoming, Gibson, and Truman. Don’t miss the beautiful New Mexico Veterans Memorial, just North of the Gibson Gate.

The Fairgrounds Area is delineated by I-40 and Central, and by Wyoming and San Mateo. Fairgrounds Albuquerque is home to the EXPO New Mexico State Fairgrounds and Tingley Coliseum. It is one of the smallest and perhaps most affordable areas of NE Albuquerque.

Fairgrounds Albuquerque is an area dominant to the New Mexico State Fairgrounds. Home to the New Mexico State Fair every September, EXPO New Mexico also hosts frequent arts and crafts festivals and weekly flea markets throughout the year. Tingley Coliseum, an 11,000-seat concert arena on the Fairgrounds, currently hosts the NBA Development League team, the Albuquerque Thunderbirds.

Four Hills

Four Hills is delineated by Central and Tramway, and by Kirtland Air Force Base and the Foothills. Four Hills is just minutes away from Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB) and Sandia National Labs. This village began with the first home in 1957. New construction continues today, with homes in Breeze at Mountain Gate, Covered Wagon, and Winterwood. Overall, you’ll find a diverse mix of housing, including single family homes and townhomes.

The Four Hills Community offers much in the way of recreation, such as the Manzano/Four Hills open space. This part of the Sandia Foothills open space has hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trails covering 146 acres. Just down Four Hills Rd to Central Ave, shopping is plentiful, with store choices like Smith’s, Albertson’s, Starbucks, Dion’s Pizza, and Einstein Bagels.

Four Hills Country Club is the second oldest country club in Albuquerque. Tee off on an 18-hole, par-72, 135-acre golf course. Other activities include tennis, swimming, and dining, as well as two grand banquet facilities.

Foothills South

Foothills South is located east of Tramway, between Montgomery and Central. Nestled in the base of the Sandias, you’ll find a variety of housing, including single family homes, townhouses and condos. Quite a few homes border to open space or national forest.

Residents enjoy the quiet solitude of foothills living while still having convenient access to shopping and employers. Foothills South is so appealing with its mountain views by day (pictured above left) and city views by night (pictured below right, a sunset taken from Piedra Lisa Canyon).

Foothills South is home to Glenwood Hills. Recreational opportunities abound, including hiking, biking, and equestrian trails.

The Albuquerque Uptown area is marked by I-25 to Wyoming, and by Montgomery to I-40. Albuquerque Uptown offers a snazzy new upscale shopping center with plenty of eateries, and a large business district. You’ll find many ranch-style homes in established neighborhoods with mature landscaping.

Shopping is the name of the game here! Albuquerque Uptown is home to the trendy, Scottsdale-styled outside shopping center by the same name. Opened Fall 2006, ABQ Uptown (pictured left) serves up a great variety of stores, including Borders, Apple Computer, Williams-Sonoma, Eddie Bauer, Talbots, Marcello’s Chophouse, the Elephant Bar, and the newly-opened Trader Joe’s–to name just a few! Just across Louisiana Blvd is the Coronado Center, an indoor mall with a sizable food court and anchored by Sears, Mervyns, and Macy’s.

Two fine public libraries occupy Uptown–Erna Fergusson and Tony Hillerman.

The Northeast Heights area is bounded by Montgomery and Central, and by Tramway and Wyoming, covering one of the largest expanses of Albuquerque. Some of the newest NE Heights neighborhoods include the gated community of Towne Park and the Presidio Townhomes & Condos. Medical facilities are many, including the renowned Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital with its M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

The NE Heights serves up plenty of entertainment! The Hinkle Family Fun Center provides hours of family fun! Where to start first? Choose from Arcade Games, Miniature Golf, Go-Karts, and Laser Tag! When you’re ready to rest, take in a flick next door at the High Ridge 8 Movie Theatres. Still other activities include the Los Altos Golf Course and the Silva Bowling Lanes! Or enjoy your favorite books at the Juan Tabo Library (pictured above).

UNM South is bounded by I-25 and San Mateo, and by Central and Gibson/ABQ Sunport. UNM South is an area that balances modern renovation with historic districts.

UNM South covers an area across the campus from the South side of Central Ave. to the Albuquerque Sunport and Kirtland Air Force Base. This area includes the southern part of the trendy Nob Hill shopping district, known for its award-winning eateries, art galleries, and dynamic nightlife. Sports fans can thrill to Lobos Football at the UNM Stadium, Basketball at the Arena (”The Pit”), or Baseball at the Isotopes Park (see map). Or kick back and relax at the Puerto del Sol Golf Course or in the many parks the area has to offer. UNM South is home to CNM’s main campus, and the towering Presbyerian Hospital, the largest acute care hospital in New Mexico.

The UNM Area is bounded by I-25 and San Mateo, and by Central and Indian School. This area features many styles of single-family homes, townhomes, and condos ranging from traditional adobe to Mediterranean to art deco.

Of course, this area is home to the University of New Mexico (its Zimmerman Library is pictured left), the scenic Duck Pond, Popejoy Theater, and the University Hospital. The historic Nob Hill district boasts award-winning dining establishments and some of the hippest boutiques. Along this part of Central Avenue, you’ll take in arts and crafts stores, new age gift shops, unique antiques, and a thriving nightlife. Residents and tourists alike find the UNM/Nob Hill area to be a virtual mecca of entertainment!

The Academy West area is bounded by Montgomery and Paseo, and I-25 and Wyoming. This area features many choices in single-family homes, townhomes, and condos.

Take Jefferson Ave to the westside of I-25 (barely outside Academy West) and you’ll discover a tastebud explosion! Look no further than The 25 Way, or along I-25 itself, and decide among great eateries like Boston’s Gourmet Pizza, Jersey Jacks, Mimi’s Cafe, Red Robin, PF Chang’s China Bistro, Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen, Texas Land & Cattle, Chama River Brewing Company…

Recreational opportunities abound in this area! Catch a movie at Century 24 Theaters, enjoy the beautiful Arroyo Del Oso Public Golf Course (pictured), thrill to the rides at Cliff’s Amusement Park or just Putt-Putt around!
